There are two general ways that email accounts are setup on our system: Forwarding or Active Mailbox.
With forwarding accounts, email sent to your address is simply forwarded to your personal account. The mail server does not manage the email directly, but rather just forwards it to the appropriate destination server. When set up as a forwarding account, the, only way to send email from your address is by using Webmail.
An active mailbox account uses the mail server to manage emails. You can send and receive email from your address via Webmail or by setting up an account on your local PC or Phone. With an active mailbox account, the server will also manage spam, blacklist, and away messages (autoresponder)
Converting To An Active Mailbox
In order for you to begin sending/receiving using your email address, the following steps need to take place:
- Contact us to request a change from a forwarding account to an active mailbox.
- SnowTech will setup your mailbox account and send you instructions for setting up mail on your local PC/Phone. Please note that all email forwarding to your personal account will stop immediately after this step is complete.
- After this is done, you can access your account right away using Webmail.
- You will also need to set up the mail account on your local PC and/or phone in order to send and retrieve messages from the email server.
After requesting the migration to an active mailbox, SnowTech will set up and test your account. There is no charge for this service if you are a Pro Security client. However, it is the client’s responsibility to perform the setup of individual systems (your PC, or your phone) to work with the server. If you need assistance with setup on your devices, normal support rates apply.
